Vulnerability Sells.
The more honest you are about your faults, the more people will think you’re perfect. That’s the funny thing about vulnerability. Maybe it scares the shit out of you but it makes everybody else think you are courageous and powerful.
True strength comes from weakness. Because then you have the chance to show your courage and conviction. Take any hero’s journey arc, they always have to show courage when they want to do anything but that.
The only catch is if you do it to get attention. People can see your intention. You will be seen as something phoney. All the respect you gained till now will turn into something pathetic. So it has to come from a genuine place. Take comedians for example, the best comedians always bring forth their vulnerability. It makes them relatable and helps them form an instant connection with their audience.
So when you tell the world, "I don’t like this about myself but I have learnt to accept it." People love it because now they can relate to the imperfections and flaws in you.
You have to be very mindful about this because you don’t wanna come across as a sappy story. Vulnerability needs to add value to your reputation, not destroy it. The best I have seen is people from the startup world do this very well. Many founders even with the financial backing, share stories that fit in the archetype of rags to riches or the underdog story. Making their story relatable and inspiring.
